ABOUT US... Aqua Africa was established in 1993 to teach Scuba Diving to independent travellers at an affordable price. In the past years it has become Malawi's number one dive school and we now have a world-wide reputation of high quality instruction. This is because of our ceaseless efforts to maintain an exceptionally high standard of safety and education. Aqua Africa is owned by Andy Botha from the UK and his wife Dusty from South Africa. Andy was originally trained by a British diving club in the north of England and started diving in the cold waters around the UK at the age of 16. The conditions in Malawi are far nicer for diving and Andy could not resist the chance of turning his hobby into a career after his first few dives in Malawi in 1993. Dusty started diving even younger at the age of 14. She was trained with her older sister by an ex army instructor who was training a group of Police divers the Military way... Surviving this she has never looked back and has dived all around South Africa. Dusty came to Malawi in December '95 where she met Andy.
To assist with the day to day duties there are many extra staff locally employed. Over the years Aqua Africa have trained most in first aid or life saving training. That includes the cleaners! A number of the staff hold Malawi Life Saving Certificates, as well as scuba diving qualifications. Aqua Africa has been featured in many publications including the latest editions of the Lonely Planet guidebooks, Air Malawi in-flight magazine Reflections, TNT magazine, Sunday Telegraph UK an many other guide books. |
